  1. Do you think it was vital for the prologue to show the Keyhole Incident? What can we speculate from this scene about Valechka? About Milogost? About the world?

  2. The fantasy world we dive into here is very sexually driven. How does this influence the characters? The plot?

  3. Valechka has many experiences throughout the book with several different partners. Who do you think she enjoyed the most? Which of these experiences were your favorite?

  4. It’s very clear that Valechka is madly in love or at least obsessed with Milogost. Setting that idea to the side, if you were Valechka, who would you favor? At what point or moment did this character win you over?

  5. A sense of betrayal by those who were supposed to protect her is a common occurrence throughout the book. How do you think this influences Valechka’s character development and the decisions she makes throughout the book?

  6. Milogost seems eager to make a deal with Valechka but strangely sets a wall between them, even when teaching her. Do you think this gives away his feelings? What do you think he’s hiding? Love? Indifference?

  7. Ghassan was supposed to marry Valechka before the Whore King intervened. How do you think this would have changed the story? Do you think Milogost would have followed Valechka to the Kingdom of Nasser in some capacity?

  8. Both her suitors and teachers have pet names for her. “Aurelian Rose” is Ghassan’s, but what does this tell you about how he sees her and feels toward her? As an object to own? Something pretty to look at or care for? There’s a lot of messages here. What are your thoughts on what he’s implying with his name for her?

  9. Milogost has dubbed her the “Little Hare” throughout. Much can be derived from the idea he might see her as tiny, prey, or even cute. What do you think he is implying when he uses this nickname? Now, let’s compare it to its actual historical meaning. In medieval times, Little Hare was often a derogatory term for the pussy or a woman’s maidenhood. How does this change your initial thoughts, if at all?

  10. We finally meet the Whore King in person. Was he what you expected? How does Valechka’s encounter with him leave you feeling? Do you think it’s important for us to see Valechka interacting with the staff first and what does that tell you about the Kingdom of Castor?

  11. At last, a true sign of magic shows itself when Theurgist Lance Callaghan enters the scene. Just when you thought we were done with male figures, he shows us a new experience and encounter. How do you think Lance will change Valechka’s future? Do you think he is a vital part of the plot to come?

  12. Devannah Kilgore is a sexually free spirit. How vital was it to have another female figure for Valechka to at last have access to in her world? Do you think Milogost knew Valechka had this void in her life or intended her simply as a sexual teacher of the same sex to answer questions he could not?

  13. Let’s talk about our favorite four-legged pal Cyril. What are your thoughts about this hound? How does he tie Valechka to the world’s lore? Do you think there’s more to him than meets the eyes? Are you glad he was able to come with her to the Kingdom of Castor?

  14. A giant raven appears on her way to Castor. What do you think the significance of this counter means? What future plot or scenes do you think will unfold in future books? Do you suspect magic is at play or that this is an indication that something is happening deep in the Ravine?

  15. We encounter a strange religious sect called the Maidens of the Three Shades. How does their presence in the world change our understanding of it as a whole? Does their presence open up more opportunities for the plot to change? What do you hope to see unfold in the future with this team of warrior female paladins?
