Snowed In with a Bigfoot, a Yeti, & a Werewolf

by Honey Cummings

Wilma woke to the smell of bacon and the familiar sound of a fire crackling. She was wrapped in the comforter from Tenzin’s bed and burritoed on the cabin couch. Again. Blinking awake, her battered suitcase was next to the couch on the floor. Deja vu waved over her. It was like the first time in the cabin all over again as she watched Boone in bigfoot mode point a spatula at the werewolf standing in the open doorway. A cold breeze made her curl up tighter.

“What the fuck did you do to her, you mangy mutt?” Boone struggled against himself not to roar the words as the whimpering werewolf who tried to make a quick getaway. “She should have been dressed and awake. Not passed out and dropped off like a burrito from Taco Bell, Lucan!”

“She fainted,” Lucan barked and took another step over the threshold toward the outside. “So, I brought her to you, since you know what to do,” he offered with another step and pulled the door to him. “I mean, you brought her here and fed her when it happened the last time.”

“Lucan! Wait—” Boone’s words were ignored as the door slammed. “Mother fucker.” Boone turned to the couch and caught her gaze. “Good … morning?”

“Do you see it?” she grumbled with a pouty face.

Boone sighed. “I see you managed to make your first bond, yes.”

She pulled herself up and sat there huddled in the comforter. “It’s on my fucking forehead, Boone.”

“Well, if it makes you feel any better…” He made a cringy face. “It’s only visible to those who aren’t human or have magic?”

“So, if humans like me can’t see it?” Rubbing her forehead, she couldn’t shake the mirror image of how it seemed to sparkle. “I don’t know, it’s pretty bright.”

“It is. Because Tenzin is—” He wrenched his head back to the kitchen. “Shit, I’m burning the bacon!”

Boone bolted out of view. Sizzling and clanking of pans and utensils filled the silence. Wilma slid out of the blanket and dragged her suitcase back upstairs. Stepping back into Tenzin’s master bedroom, she closed the door and leaned on it. A shiver rolled over her just remembering the way he touched her, kissed her, and met her gaze with those icy eyes. There had been something different about the connection. Scanning the room, she was relieved to see the bathroom light was on and the lamp on the nightstand. Indeed Boone and Lucan had brought a generator and managed to get the cabin back in working order.

And they only did that for … me. To make me feel comfortable. In fact, it’s like they are all working very hard to keep me here. Maybe what Tenzin said was true. I have … them and here. Though I’m a fucking stranger to them! And yet here I am fucking monsters! Way to go me! Great rebound plan for both life and love there!

Opening her suitcase, she rummaged together an outfit. Nothing there was snow suitable. Sighing, she settled for leggings, a tank top, and pulled her oversized sweater. She was tired of being naked. Or wrapped in a blanket as if it were her personal tortilla. Coming down the stairs, the food smell hit her. Tummy grumbling, she made her way into the kitchen where Boone, still in bigfoot mode, set a cup of coffee beside the plate. The bacon was dark and crispy and she stifled a giggle.

Boone shot her a look of warning. “I was very distracted, so it’s not terrible, but more on the crispy side than what I prefer.”

“It’s fine.” She waved a hand. “Wow. Eggs, biscuits, gravy, the works, huh?”

He shrugged as began the dishes. “What can I say? I like to cook.”

“And you like to take care of me, it seems.” She took a bite of biscuits smothered in gravy and hummed with delight. “So delicious.”

“I like to think I put one’s well-being in the forefront,” he drawled.

Swallowing another bite of food, she added, “But even Lucan and Tenzin acknowledge it.”

“Tenzin too?” Boone shot a look of disbelief over his shoulder. “I find that hard to believe.”

She took a moment to chew her food and swallow. “But he’s willing to have you two as my bodyguards, apparently.”

“And still be able to touch you?” He laughed at the idea and shook his head.

“If I allow it,” she teased. “Keep feeding me like this, and it’ll be impossible to say no.”

Another chuckle and a happy grunt ended it as he cut the water off. “Ladybug, don’t tease me like that.”

“Oh!” Her fork clanked on the plate and slid into the seat across the table. “Bonding!”

Boone cringed. “Yea, I can see you're bonded.”

Shaking her head, she steeled herself and inhaled deeply. “I’m already not happy to hear I will have to face Lucan’s knotting again, but the idea of him biting me?” She held her arms and shuddered. “That’s intense.”

Boone managed to shift back to his human form, heaving a sigh. “But I’ve heard it’s intensely pleasurable for someone who is a true fated mate.”

“But Lucan said I would have to ask you about yours.” Boone’s eyes shot away. “Which means you knew there was a chance that … it wasn’t going to work at all. Doesn’t it?”

“Yes and no.” Those green and brown eyes met her gaze. “I was hoping it would work so we wouldn’t have to … you know, bond?”

The words tightened in her chest. “You didn’t want to … bond with me?” It stung. The idea of the savior, the gentle giant who feeds her the best damn breakfast in her life. “Really?”

Boone leaned back in the chair and looked to the ceiling. “Look, Ladybug. It’s not that I don’t want you as my mate,” his voice had a disheartened tone, “I just didn’t want to force it.”

Wilma frowned, some part of her wanting to cry. “But why not tell me so I could understand.”

His chin tilted down and he cast a dangerous look. “We have to go to the mating grounds.”

“Excuse me. The what?” Wilma coughed, choking on her own spit.

“You heard me, Ladybug,” he grumbled.

“Hold on…” Wilma clasped her hands together and furrowed her brow. “Care to elaborate?”

“Clearly with the snowstorm—”

“No, no.” She shook her head. “What is this mating ground thing? Like in the open, in front of other people?”

Boone arched his brow. “Are you saying you’d go through with the bonding ritual? It’s not for everyone, Wilma.”

“First you have to tell me what it all involves.” Wilma threw her hands in the air.

Boone chuckled.

“Seriously, what the fuck do we,” she wagged her finger between them, “have to do to bond then?”

“If I tell you, it means I’m trusting you with something my clan doesn’t share outside our own. I need you to understand what asking means before I say it.” Boone smirked, his eyes having a glint of excitement. “It’s a clan secret, and telling you is agreeing to follow through, Ladybug.”

Wilma gave him a disgusted face. “You mean that?”

Boone shrugged and gave a grunt.

“What if I guess it?” She narrowed her eyes at him.

“Still counts as having to go through with it,” he answered with a snort.

“But, really? Mating grounds?” Wilma pinched her nose. “Why didn’t Tenzin need to take me some place then?”

Boone stood, heaving a sigh. “He’s alpha. It counts anywhere on his territory, and he took you to his most inner sanctum.” He walked around and tapped her on the forehead. “Not sure how I feel with him giving you the mark of the queen.”

“Wait.” She stood and poked his chest. “What do you mean he gave me the mark?”

Boone twisted his lips.

“Boone?” she pressed.

He brushed pass her. “Ask Tenzin.”

“Unbelievable.” She followed him into the living room. “You three have turned my entire world upside down.”

“And I can say the same about you.” He squatted and tossed some fresh logs on the fire. “Are you feeling ok today?”

“Yea, I feel fine,” she answered lost in her spiraling thoughts. “Queen? Me? He doesn’t know me!”

Boone stood and without warning pulled her into his arms. She froze. His heart was beating so fast and she inhaled deep, loving that strange Irish Spring scent. Wrapping her arms around him, she pulled herself harder into him. Something about Boone just melted stress, tension, and enveloped her in safety. He rubbed a hand up and down her back.

“It’s not fair,” he murmured. “He should have asked.”

Wilma wanted to say something, but she had no reply. She buried her face into his chest.

“You know he had his people pull a full background on you first, right?” His words sounded as if he were talking from experience. “And still, he found you worthy to wear this crown.”

“He should have asked,” she swallowed, the burning in her throat warning of the tears she didn’t want to come.

Boone suddenly lifted her into his arms. She yelped and clung to his neck. A chuckle rolled from him as he walked toward the couch. Wilma squirmed, trying to push out.

“Careful or I might drop you,” he warned.

“And I don’t think I can go another round with anyone!” Wilma struggled harder, but he was too strong and big.

“Calm down, Ladybug.” Boone’s laugh shook them both. “I was moving us to the couch, not making a move to have another round.” She calmed and he kissed her cheek. “Though, the moment you ask me to…”

She rubbed her cheek where his beard had tickled. “Not until I figure out your so-called mating ritual and grounds mystery, mister bigfoot.”

Easing Wilma onto the couch, she sighed. Sitting beside her he was fast to pull her into him again. Again, that warmth and comfort he seemed to exude washed over her once more. Calm and happy to snuggle against the bear-of-a-man as his arm pulled her in, heavy against her. A long exhale escaped her as if all the tension and stress had left her. She didn’t know what to do, but at that very moment, a nap snuggled in Boone’s arms sounded divine.

“Would it be wrong if I fell asleep on you?” she asked.

“No.” He sighed contently. “I was kind of hoping for it. Last I checked, fainting isn’t restful.”

She laughed. “No, it’s not.”

A yawn escaped her.

“When you are ready, just let me know,” he offered.

“I know,” she replied.

“Tenzin is going to bring some snow-worthy clothes and we’re going to head to the ski lodge later today.” Boone rested his cheek on the top of her head, inhaling her scent.

“How does he know my size,” she scoffed.

“You’re his rani, his yeti queen. He knows your size. Trust me,” he drawled unamused. “At least they have power over there. Then we don’t have to lug fuel to the generator.”

“Oh. That makes sense.” Another yawn took hold. “I slept so good last night.” Boone tensed under her and she hurriedly added, “The bed! The bed was soft is all!” She sat up and he arched a brow at her. “I mean it, Boone. It was quiet and soft and…”

“Look here, Ladybug,” his finger tapped the bottom of her chin, their eyes meeting. “I’m not that jealous.” He kissed her, short and simple, then added, “Because I got to have you twice.”

Wilma’s face flushed. Her mind spiraled down a slippery slope and splashed spectacularly back into the gutter. Boone’s hands were back around her neck. Her body heated. The arousal uncanny and stole her breath. Then she was there pinned between Lucan and Boone sliding in, gentle and eager all at once. She wiggled, legs squeezing hard together as if that would stop anything to happen. Pulse racing, she searched Boone’s face. His pupils dilated. The nostrils flared as he inhaled. A happy grunt and hum rolled from him.

“Mmmm, peaches,” he whispered and stole another kiss. “It makes me happy I can invoke that from you.”

“Well, it was my first time with two at the same time!” She covered her face. “And to think, granny said I might need to lay with—”

The front door opened and Tenzin glared at the two of them cuddling on the couch. His jaw twitched. Those icy blue eyes piercing through them both. Then she saw it. His nostrils then the dilated eyes. Whatever she was releasing was stronger like a drug today. Then his lips went thin. Tenzin was furious. He knew she was ready to rumble with that fiery expression. Wilma’s heart jumped to her throat. It was as if she was caught cheating.

Well, is it though?

Her hand lifted to her forehead covering the mark. Tenzin’s expression shifted to something odd and confusion settled across his features. It was as if he were surprised, taken aback, and offended all at once. He made a strange sound as if grunting in disapproval.

Why am I hiding his mark from him? It’s not like this hides me making out with Boone on the couch! Shit! What happens now?
